A Little More About

Butte, Montana

Butte was founded as a silver and gold mining camp in the late 1800s, just as Montana became a state. Eventually, at the turn of the century, copper would become the primary product of the Butte mining areas.

The city has a population of 34,494 people according to the 2020 census conducted by the United States Census Bureau.

Butte now has one of the country's biggest National Historical Monument Districts, with over 4,000 buildings surrounding the area. Take a stroll of historical landmarks on the Old Trolley No. 1 or come and visit one of Butte's many exhibits, including the Copper King Mansion.

Butte is located in southwestern Montana, near the intersection of Interstate 15 and Interstate 90. It's roughly a 2-hour trip south on Interstate 15 to the Idaho border.
